On the Spangelo Flower Farm we love flowers and farming. And we look for beauty in everything we do.
Our farm is a family run small craft 5 acre farm located on the sunny Saanich Peninsula, 20 minutes from downtown Victoria, on Vancouver island, British Columbia. We established the farm in 1997 and our focus is on providing top quality blooms. Following earth-friendly techniques, we are thoughtful in our approach and make it a practise to stay informed and implement what we learn……….we work with nature using compost, mulches and no-till methods, encourage pollinators and avoid all harsh chemicals, pesticides and insecticides.
Our flower harvest takes place between April and October and includes perennials, shrubs, trees, bulbs, tubers, corms and yearly seeded annuals.
Spring brings hellebores, ranunculas, sweetpeas, anemones, tulips and peonies. Early summer includes roses, astrantia, scented stock and strawflowers. Summer is taken over with dahlias and hydrangeas, and fall brings more dahlias, amaranth, dried grasses, zinnias, seed heads and assorted dried bundles.
My name is Cindy Spangelo and I love flowers and farming. I grew up in rural Northern Alberta and got the farming bug many years ago as a 13 year old 4H member. I spent every spare moment riding horses on large sections of land, herding cattle, and camping and swimming with horses every weekend. When farm chores had to be done, I spent days riding on combines, swathers, tractors and balers. And I loved it all.
In my early 20’s, while studying for a Masters in Public Administration, a friend introduced me to the classical idea that beauty has power to bring joy and restore the soul. He believed in flowers and showed me the way. I became a Master Gardener, planted 2000 lavender plants and the rest ……………is history.
